Scripture Reading: John 18:38-40 (KJV)
“Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all. But ye have a custom, that I should www.prediksiboladunia.comrelease unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews? Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.”
Reflections: The religious leaders and the crowd had an opportunity to choose righteousness, yet their envy and hatred for Jesus led them to demand the release of a criminal instead. Though Pilate declared Jesus innocent, their hearts were so blinded by resentment that they chose Barabbas—a known robber—over the sinless Son of God. Envy and hatred can corrupt judgment, leading people to forsake what is right and embrace what is detestable. When jealousy and bitterness take root, they can cause even the most religious person to justify evil choices. This is why the Bible warns against allowing such emotions to take hold (James 3:14-16). As believers, we must guard our hearts against envy and hatred, lest they lead us away from God’s truth. Choosing righteousness requires humility and a willingness to let go of personal grudges and selfish ambitions.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, cleanse my heart from envy and hatred.
Confession: I reject envy and hatred.
