Scripture Reading: Genesis 21:10
And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, which she had born unto Abraham, mocking. Wherefore she said unto Abraham, Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac.
Reflection: At long last, prophecy has been fulfilled. Sarah was a happy woman. Her barrenness was over. Her son Isaac was such a delight to her and her husband Abraham. Nevertheless, troubled brewed. Ishmael, the son of Hagar the Egyptian—whom Hagar had borne to Abraham—made fun of Isaac in a manner that troubled Sarah. Sarah therefore requested Abraham to eject both Hagar and Ishmael out of the house. This was very heavy for Abraham to do. Unrest had reared up its head in his house indeed. What they (Sarah and Abraham) were led by their flesh ( carnal mind) to do sometime back was now fighting the peace of their union. What a mistake they had both committed. Even though God had earlier on promised them a son, Sarah had moved Abraham to have a child with Hagar for fear that he could go childless. Her carnal mind caused her to doubt God’s word and to move the husband to follow her desire. Watch out! Your carnal mind will lead you to commit mistakes that will end up ‘fighting’ you later! Just keep yourself away from the carnal mind.
Prayer: Lord, help me to keep away from the voice of the carnal mind.
Confession: I am a spiritual man. I keep myself away from the voice of the carnal mind. I only listen to the voice of the Spirit.
