Scripture Reading:1Peter 5:8
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
Reflections: The Apostle Peter makes us aware of the presence of the devil who lurks around, intending to look for people to devour. To forestall this situation, Peter admonishes the church to be “sober and vigilant”. While “sober” implies having not been drunk with alcohol, ‘vigilant” speaks of alertness. In essence, Peter was asking the church to do away with whatever could compromise their alertness in life. The implication is that if you don’t learn to stay alert, you will not stay alive. Resist whatever seeks to get you to compromise on your ability to remain vigilant in life.
Prayer: Dear Lord, grant me the grace to stay alert in this life.
Confession: I am alert.
