Scripture Reading: Isaiah 28:6
And for a spirit of judgment to him that sitteth in judgment, and for strength to them that turn the battle to the gate
Reflections: Isaiah speaks about how God will become a spirit of judgement to the one who sits in judgment. This implies that until those who seat in judgment rely on the Spirit of God, they are bound to make mistakes. The Hebrew word translated judgment is ‘mishpat’. It means justice. Even though it describes ‘legal order and individual rights’, it actually ultimately points to ‘honoring and expressing God’s intended order for His children’. Thus the purpose of justice is to set things right again in line with the will of God. This rules out the use of emotions and self will and promotes total dependence on the Holy Spirit. Apart from judges who work at the law court, our day to day activities also sees us occupying ‘seats of judgment’ over people. The choice of ‘justice’ we administer in such circumstances must also seek to honor God and express His will. Don’t ever forget to depend on the spirit of Judgement anytime you occupy your ‘seat of Judgement’ over others!
Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank you for the availability of the spirit of judgment to help me make key decisions regarding others.
Confession: I depend on the Holy Spirit in the judgments I make in life.
