Wednesday, 30th June 2021: Rejoice in the God of breakthroughs rather than in breakthroughs!

Scripture Reading: Hab 3:17-18
Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation

Reflections: The blossoming of the fig tree, fruit bearing of the vine tree, byproducts from the olive tree and availability of meat from livestock appear to be sources of joy to man and therefore an absence of any of these triggers sadness. Habakkuk takes a contrary opinion and proclaims that despite the absence of these supposedly antecedents of joy, his joy remains undisturbed. This is because he rejoices rather in the God who makes these provisions available. The way to rejoice in order for the phenomenon of joy to be everlasting is therefore to rejoice in the God of breakthroughs rather than in breakthroughs. Paul confirms this by saying ‘Keep on rejoicing in the Lord at all times. I will say it again: Keep on rejoicing‘- Philippians 4:4. Rejoicing in this dimension assures your linkage to breakthroughs all the time (Habakkuk 3:19). Rejoice in the God of breakthroughs!

Prayer: Dear Lord, as Lord of breakthroughs, let me rejoice in you rather than in the breakthroughs.

Confession: The God of breakthroughs is my source of joy. I rejoice forevermore.
