Scripture Reading: Matthew 12:28-29
But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you. Or how can one enter a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he first binds the strong man? And then he will spoil his house.
Reflections: Jesus healed a demon-possessed man who was blind and unable to talk. This generated a heated debate between Jesus and the Pharisees about the source of his power. Although Jesus established the Holy Spirit as the source of His power, he laid bare the spiritual process involved in getting the demon-possessed man healed. He likens the demonic spirit responsible for deafness and blindness to a strong man and the one afflicted by the demonic spirit as goods of the strong man. He then submits that to take away the strong man’s goods; one must first overpower ( bind) the strong man. This means that you must be in a position where you are always stronger than any strong man. This is achieved when you cultivate a deep fellowship with the Holy Spirit. Until then, demons may have what you need firmly controlled in their custody!
Prayer: Dear Holy Spirit, please make me stronger than any strong man!
Confession: I am made stronger than any strong man by the power of the Holy Spirit.
