Scripture Reading: Joh 20:30-31
And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
Reflections: John mentions that although many miracles were performed by Jesus Christ, some were left undocumented. He concludes that what has been recorded is sufficient to get people saved and to get them prepared for life in eternity. This settles the matter as to whether any new seemingly inspired writing or revelation could be added to the Bible. The answer is simply no! The written word of God (the 66 books of the Bible) providing details about the redemptive plan of God through Jesus Christ remains the only key to salvation and the standards for the transformation of lives ( 2 Tim 3:16). This makes it the greatest and all sufficiency pack of inspired information we need in matters of salvation and getting to know the will of God. It is more than enough! Don’t ever be deceived by any new writing or revelation promising salvation and eternal life.
Prayer: Dear Lord, let my life be engaged by the contents of your written word and help me to yield to the transformative process it seeks to bring to my life.
Confession: The Bible is more than enough. In matters of salvation and getting to know God’s will, I will never give in to any new writing or revelation.
