Scripture Reading: Luke 22: 45
And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow
Reflections: It was time for Jesus to be betrayed and handed over to his enemies. With this heartbreaking news, both Jesus and his three disciples were filled with sorrow as they entered the garden of Gethsemane. Once they got to the garden, Jesus asked the disciples to pray. He went further ahead to pray alone. When he returned to check up on them, he found them somewhat asleep. They had slept because of their sorrowful hearts. Sorrow had negated their ability to pray. This indicates that Sorrow has the power to neutralise your ability to do what is essential at critical times. No matter how sorrowful you become, don’t fall to its power. Jesus demonstrated that he lived above the power of sorrow. Unlike the disciples, he prayed despite being sorrowful. This enabled him to access the ministration of angels. Like Jesus, live beyond the reach of the power of sorrow.
Prayer: Dear Lord, give me the grace to live above the reach of the power of sorrow.
Confession: I live above the reach of the power of sorrow.
