Wednesday, 22nd January 2025: Guard Your Heart Against Envy and Jealousy!

Scripture Reading: Matthew 12:24
“But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, ‘This fellow does not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.’”

Reflections: Envy and jealousy, when unchecked, can cloud our judgment and corrupt our words. In Matthew 12:24, we see the Pharisees responding with unfounded accusations against Jesus after witnessing His miraculous works. Their envy of His influence and authority blinded them to the truth and drove them to attribute His power to demonic origins. This passage reveals a dangerous pattern: when envy takes root, it breeds negativity. Instead of celebrating the good in others, it compels us to criticize and diminish them, often without cause. Such attitudes damage relationships and hinder God’s work in our lives. The antidote to envy and jealousy is a heart aligned with God’s love and purpose. When we see others succeeding, we should rejoice with them, knowing that God has a unique plan for each of us.

Prayer: Lord, cleanse my heart of envy and jealousy.

Confession: I choose to celebrate others’ success.
