Scripture Reading: Deut 32:15
But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: thou art waxen fat, thou art grown thick, thou art covered with fatness; then he forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.
Reflections: Moses recounts the history of Israel. His aim was for the present generation to learn from what had happened in the past. He recalls how Israel used to revere God but declined to do so when they became ‘fat and kicked’. To be fat and kicking’ is symbolical of prosperity and glory. Moses’s message implied that when Israel had nothing to boast about, they clinked to God and revered him as the rock of their salvation. But when they found themselves basking in great wealth and power, they forgot all about God, the very source of their breakthrough. They no longer treated Him with the level of reverence they had before. It is amazing how we can begin to treat God lightly especially after we breakthrough life’s challenges. Learn from the mistake of Israel. No matter what happens, let God remain the attention of your life.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to treat you with all the reverence you deserve whether I am poor or rich.
Confession. The place of God in my life will never change places. Whether I am lifted up or not, God remains the number one in my life. I will never forsake him or treat him lightly.
