Scripture Reading: Mark 6:22-23 And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee. And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom.
Reflections: Herod had no intention of killing John the Baptist. He knew he was a holy man and feared to do so. On his birthday however the unexpected happened. During the party held to celebrate the occasion, the daughter of Herodias danced so well that this got him very excited. In that mood, he publicly promised the girl under an oath to give her anything she wanted. This proved to be hasty and unguided which cost the life of John the Baptist. The girl, under instigation from Herodias, asked for the head of John on a tray. Herod felt so sad but could not help himself since he had accompanied his promise with a sworn oath. It was too late! He ended up killing a holy and an innocent man. Watch what you do or say when you become emotional. Like Herod, even though you may regret it later, it’s ramifications would have been too late to reverse. Save yourself from troubles by refrainIng from making hasty and unguided statements.
Prayer: Dear Lord, guide me in all I say and do. Help me to avoid making hasty and unguided statements.
Confession: I don’t make hasty and unguided statements in this life. I am kept out of a lot of troubles.
