Scripture Reading: John 6:26-27
Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled. Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed
Reflections: After Jesus had miraculously fed 5,000 people, he left for the mountain top. The crowd began to look out for His return. They soon realised He was completely out of the vicinity. The next day, they followed him up to Capernaum, another town where they found Him. They wondered how He got there since they never saw Him boarding a boat. They therefore, queried Hm about it. In his response, Jesus chided them for seeking Him for the wrong reasons. He made them aware that rather than seeking Him for salvation purposes, they were only doing so to have access to more food. The response of Jesus points us to one fundamental truth – a miracle is not as important as having a relationship with its source. A miracle is therefore, meant to get you closer to God and to see you grounded in the practice of your faith towards Him and not merely to meet your needs.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to deepen my relationship with you as the God of miracles.
Confession: I look for the God of miracles and not merely for miracles.
