Scripture Reading: Genesis 15:1-2
“After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward. And Abram said, Lord GOD, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless?”
Reflections: God promised Abram protection and a great reward. Yet, Abram’s focus was not on immediate wealth but on a lasting legacy through an heir. His desire for posterity reveals his unselfish character, reminding us that our decisions today should aim at positively impacting future generations. God’s response to Abram extended far beyond what he imagined—countless descendants like the stars. Abram’s faith in this promise, even when he saw no evidence, was credited to him as righteousness. Like Abram, we should allow thoughts of posterity to shape our desires and actions, trusting in God’s long-term plans.
Prayer: Lord, help me to live with the future in mind.
Confession: I will let thoughts of legacy guide my actions.
