Scripture Reading: Acts 2:24
Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.
Reflections: Peter recounted the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ during his sermon on the day of Pentecost. In his narration, he calls our attention to a critical characteristic of God: His limitless and eternal power. He explains that while Jesus was executed and buried, He had to rise from the dead because death could not hold Him down. Death is the culmination of all constraints that may ever be put on man; it is the absence of life. Since God is self-existent and the supreme architect of life, it would have been astonishing if death had succeeded in holding Him captive perpetually, robbing Him of His ever-living status. As His resurrection demonstrated His illimitable, we know that nothing will ever be able to stop Him. With this knowledge, we have every reason to hope He will liberate us from our limitations. When God steps in, nothing can hold you up!
Prayer: Lord, I praise you for your illimitable
Confession: When God steps in, nothing can hold me up!
