Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 18:5
“And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.”
Reflections: David’s journey from shepherd to soldier was swift and remarkable. After he defeated Goliath through the Holy Spirit’s anointing, he entered the royal court. While this anointing opened the door, it was David’s wisdom that sustained him in his new role. In 1 Samuel 18, we read four times of David’s wise behavior (verses 5, 14, 15, and 30), showing his understanding that anointing and wisdom must go hand in hand. Wisdom, in the biblical sense, goes beyond knowledge; it is spiritual insight and discernment to make the right choices. This wisdom allowed David to avoid conflict, gain respect, and stay safe, even in a hostile environment. David’s life shows us that while anointing empowers, wisdom sustains and guides. Anointing may open doors, but wisdom is what keeps them open and leads us to fulfill God’s purpose.
Prayer: Lord, help me to act wisely in all circumstances.
Confession: I am anointed by God and walk in divine wisdom.
