Scripture Reading: Colossians 2:8
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
Reflections: Paul cautioned the Colossians to be aware of falling prey to those who use ‘philosophy, vain deceit, tradition and rudiments of the world’ to lure them away from the true gospel. He was referring to the ‘use of clever but false arguments by people to deceive others. As a child of God, you must be aware of the use of clear but false arguments by friends and others to change your mind about the standards of the gospel of Christ. For instance there are presently fine arguments about how it is alright for spirit filled people to wear dresses that clearly reveal some sensitive parts of their body in the name of fashion, drinking alcohol but moderately, having premarital sex, having affection with people of the same sex etc etc. Once you fall prey to these reasoning and arguments, you are led away as a booty for the enemies of the cross. With time you will no longer yield to the voice of the Holy Spirit. Don’t allow this to happen to you. Resist these sophistry deployed persons and hold on to the truth of the apostolic gospel. There can never ever be any new gospel – Galatians 1:8
Prayer: Oh Lord, keep me away from people who will use clever but false arguments to change my mind about the true standards of the gospel.
Confession: I am complete in Christ. I abide by the standards of His gospel. I will not be deceived by any clever but false arguments. I reject all sophistic teachings in Jesus name.
