Tuesday, 9th April 2024: Do not use breakthroughs to please your flesh.

Scripture Reading: Ezra 9:2
For they have taken of their daughters for themselves, and for their sons: so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the people of those lands: yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this trespass.

Reflections: As a sacred people, Israel was forbade by God from matrimonially uniting with foreigners. Following their miraculous deliverance from captivity in Babylon, it became even more imperative that they fulfil this covenant duty. Nevertheless, the Israelites neglected their sacred vocation and participated in illicit sex with their heathen neighbours. The liberty that had been bestowed upon them was in danger due to their sinful conduct. In order to prevent divine retribution, Ezra, a scribe and cleric, promptly intervened to guide them towards repentance and realignment with the will of God. This story serves as a reminder that in the midst of advancements, we must remain steadfast in our adherence to the teachings of God’s word. Neglecting to do so would be tantamount to exploiting the miraculous breakthrough for our materialistic and selfish interests (Galatians 5:13).

Prayer: Lord, may I never use breakthroughs to please my flesh.

Confession: I do not use breakthroughs to please my flesh.
