Tuesday, 7th November 2023: Always maintain a forgiving heart!

Scripture Reading: Genesis 50: 19-20 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God? But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

Reflections: Joseph’s difficulties prior to his rise to fame in Egypt could be traced back to his brothers’ hatred for him. Worst of all, they sold him into slavery and lied to their father about an animal killing him. However, his brothers were taken aback when, contrary to their expectations, Joseph displayed a heart of forgiveness completely devoid of resentment towards them when they unexpectedly met him in Egypt in his capacity as prime minister. He told them that God had allowed their cruel behaviour so that he could grow to prominence and save lives, including theirs. Joseph’s forgiving heart was undoubtedly one of the reasons, in addition to divine favour, that facilitated his ascent to an excellent position in life. Be encouraged by his example, and learn to forgive and let go of your bitterness towards those who have wronged you. Always maintain a forgiving heart!
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to nurture a heart of complete forgiveness towards those who hurt me.
Confession: I forgive others. I don’t harbour bitterness towards them.
