Tuesday, 7th January 2025: Prayer flows freely when forgiveness clears the heart, and fasting amplifies its power!

Scripture Reading: Matthew 6:15-16
“But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.”

Reflections: In teaching His disciples to pray, Jesus emphasized forgiveness and fasting as essential to effective prayer. Prayer is a relational dialogue with God that requires a pure heart. Unforgiveness blocks the flow of God’s grace and hinders our own forgiveness (Matthew 6:15). Similarly, fasting, when done with sincerity and humility, strengthens prayer by subduing the flesh and enhancing spiritual sensitivity. However, Jesus warns against fasting for public recognition; it should be a private act of worship reflecting dependence on God. The connection between prayer, forgiveness, and fasting is clear—prayer flows freely when forgiveness clears the heart, and fasting amplifies its power. Forgive others as an act of obedience, and make fasting a regular part of your spiritual routine. Together, these practices open the door to God’s blessings and deeper fellowship with Him.

Prayer: Lord, Help me to forgive others and to fast with humility and sincerity.

Confession: I choose to forgive and fast in humility and sincerity.
