Scripture Reading: Romans 12:1
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Reflection: The Apostle Paul draws our attention to an important service every Christian must render. He refers to this service as the ‘ living sacrifice’ and minces no words as he notes that this is a key requirement for successful and meaningful Christian living. A sacrifice essentially speaks of submission of will. An animal when slaughtered ceases to have a will of its own. It can never resurrect to repossess its will again. It’s meat is consumed at the will of another. To offer up yourself as a living sacrifice simply means to submit your will totally to God. You must get to the point where you become dead to your will and desires but alive to the will and counsel of God. Paul confirmed he walks in this experience himself when he said to the Galatians – ‘ I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me’-Galatians 2:20. As long as your will is different from that of God, you cannot consider yourself a living sacrifice! Ask God to help you function as a living sacrifice.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me offer up my life as a living sacrifice to you.
Confession: I am a living sacrifice unto God. I have no will of mine own. I am submerged in the will of God.
