Scripture Reading: Act 6:3
Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
Reflections: The need arose for a stream of leaders to be chosen and ordained to take care of the distribution of food among the disciples. A criteria was given for the selection of these leaders, one of which was that the person must have an ‘honest report’. Translated from the Greek’martureō’, the phrase ‘honest report’ implies that one’s life must ‘give evidence or testify of positive moral character. The life of Samuel is a clear case in point. The entire Israel testified of his honesty and agreed that from his childhood to adulthood, he had never defrauded, oppressed, or extorted anything from them (1Sa 12:2-4). Honesty is one of the realms of living that proves the reality of God to people. It enables us, as disciples, to positively affect our world. How honest have you been?
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to be a person with an honest report.
Confession: Through my honesty, I positively affect my world.
