Tuesday, 31st December 2019: Choices do matter!

Scripture Reading : 1 Corinthians 10:23
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.

Reflections: Man is free to make any choice of his own. However our greatest challenge is what to choose. In answering this question, the Apostle Paul shares his philosophy of choice with the Corinthian church. He brings up two key issues which guides the choice he makes – expediency and edification. He subjects any choice he has to make to how expedient and edifying it will be to his life. Expedience refers to relevance and appropriateness of the action to his life. Edifying implies how well the action syncs with his Christian faith and the level of spiritual benefit it will bring to him. Thus when an action he is about to take does not satisfy these two criteria, he abandons it. What a way forward to help you make choices in life as you prepare to enter 2020! The choices you make in this new year must not be inimical to your well being and spiritual development in life! Happy new year in advance

Prayer : Dear Lord, in this new year help me to involve myself with actions that are relevant and beneficial to my spiritual development.

Confession: Even though I am free to make choices, I will not involve myself in actions that are not relevant and beneficial to my spiritual development.
