Scripture Reading: Genesis 19:29
And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.
Reflections: The entire city of Sodom and Gomorrah with its inhabitants, vegetation, animals, buildings etc was up in smoke by fire from heaven. Lot definitely might have heaved a huge sigh of relief after being led out of the city by the angels. How thankful he must have been to God for this show of mercy and goodness. Perhaps what he may not have immediately considered as the reason for this show of divine mercy and goodness was the relationship that his uncle Abraham had with God. Genesis 19:29 indeed confirms that Lot was saved because of Abraham. Abraham therefore was the source by which God demonstrated his mercies and goodness towards Lot. Our relationship with God goes a long way to affect people around us. God uses it as a means to deliver them from troubles. Consider the case of Acts 27: 22-24 where no one could die in the shipwreck just because of the presence of Paul. Don’t ever underrate what your relationship with God can do. Keep it growing richer and richer!
Prayer: Dear Lord I thank you that out of my relationship with you, people around me shall encounter your goodness and mercies. Help me to enrich my relationship with you more and more.
Confession: My relationship with God is a channel of blessing to others. People around me shall encounter God’s goodness and mercies.
