Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 11:12-13 (NKJV)
“Then the people said to Samuel, ‘Who is he who said, ‘Shall Saul reign over us?’ Bring the men, that we may put them to death.’ But Saul said, ‘Not a man shall be put to death this day, for today the Lord has accomplished salvation in Israel.’”
Reflections: After Israel’s victory over the Ammonites, Saul faced calls for revenge against those who had opposed his kingship. Rather than seeking vengeance, Saul chose mercy, focusing instead on the salvation God had granted Israel, and proclaiming that no one would die that day. Saul’s choice to spare those who disrespected him illustrates true leadership—putting the community’s well-being above personal grievances. In conflict, leaders may feel urged to act against dissenters, but real leadership often means choosing unity and healing over retaliation. In our own lives, we may encounter situations where criticism, disrespect, or outright opposition comes our way. The temptation to retaliate can be strong, but we must remember that actions taken in anger can damage relationships and destroy the spirit of community. Instead, we should seek paths that promote forgiveness, understanding, and reconciliation.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to live with a spirit of forgiveness and unity.
Confession: I choose forgiveness over revenge.
