Scripture Reading: Exodus 15:9-10
The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them. Thou didst blow with thy wind; the sea covered them: they sank as lead in the mighty waters.
Reflections: One of the most extraordinary supernatural events narrated in the Bible is the Israelites’ unharmed crossing of the Red Sea. At the same time, the Egyptian army that pursued them perished in the same body of water. Moses begins his account by highlighting the fact that the Egyptians boasted about their powerful weapons, which they believed would enable them to capture and enslave the Israelites. On the other hand, the Israelites lacked such weaponry and were more susceptible to falling into Egyptian hands. However, a strange incident occurred once they had safely crossed the sea, with the Egyptian army following closely behind. When Moses raised his staff towards the sea as a directive from God, the water covered up and drowned all the Egyptians—the Egyptians’ brief moment of arrogance demonstrated that God, not man, ultimately reigns supreme. In the end, God always has the final say!
Prayer: Dear Lord, you are great. You always have the last word. Let the plans of my enemies come to an abrupt end.
Confession: God has the final say!
