Scripture Reading:Philippians 4:1
Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.
Reflection: It is important to understand that the work of Christ on the cross broke the yoke of bondage on man and made available to him a life of liberty. It is to continue walking in liberty that the subject of standing fast in the Lord comes into focus (Galatians 5:1). To stand fast means to remain stationary bearing in mind that you have an opponent who would like to see you get out of your given position of liberty. This certainly will involve the action of persevering. No wonder the military in Classical Greek classified the term ‘stand fast’ as ‘strongly resisting an opponent”. The way out to stand firm in Christ is to walk and abide by his word. Abiding and walking in his word enables you to keep the devil resisted while it keeps you stationary in your position of liberty. Maintaining your allegiance to the word of God is therefore your key to standing fast in the Lord. The words of Paul in 2 Thessa 2:15 sums it up all- ‘Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me hold allegiance to your word. I must stand fast in you.
Confession: I am standing fast in the Lord. I cannot be separated from his WORD. My life in the WORD keeps the devil resisted and holds me up in my walk in liberty.
