Scripture Reading: Mark 10:7-8
For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.

Reflections: In his response to a question on divorce, Jesus used the opportunity to throw more light on the marriage union. He emphasised that a man (male) will have to leave his parents and be wedded to his wife (female) since they were created as male and female by God. Further, this joint male-female (opposite sex) relationship according to Jesus, then, mystically positions them as ‘one flesh’. The phenomenon of ‘one flesh’ is traceable to the initial creation of Adam when he was noted as a male individual until Eve, his female counterpart was created out of his ribs (Gen 1:27 & Gen 2:21-25). Eve was thus originally in Adam which made them ‘one flesh’ before she was ‘pulled out’ by God. Following the ‘pull out’, God now instituted the marriage union between the two opposite sex to spiritually position them as the ‘one flesh’ they used to be so that they will be eligible to serve His purposes. The ‘one flesh’ mandate is thus made possible only by marriage with the opposite sex! It rules out same-sex marriage!

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to stay compliant with the opposite-sex marriage mandate instituted by you.

Confession: I reject same-sex marriage. I subscribe to the ‘one flesh’ mandate made possible by only marriage with the opposite sex.
