Scripture Reading: Luke 15:17-18 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee.
Reflections: It’s been long since the prodigal son left home, a place of affluence and respect. He was now feeding swines. Until this time he had not undertaken any self-assessment about his life. Self-assessment is the evaluation of oneself or one’s actions, attitudes or performance to strategize for the future. As he fed the swines, he began to assess his life. He jolted at the results. How could he now be feeding swines when he was well respected back home. Empowered by the implications of the results of the self assessment, he refused to continue working among the swines. His new decision was to get back home where he could enhance his livelihood in a more better and dignified way. Self assessment is your empowerment to keep you out of shame and troubles. Put it to work now with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. You will realize that life will be worth the living.
Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me to conduct self assessments periodically.
Confession: Conducting self assessments is a key part of my life. It keeps me out of the undesired.
