Scripture Reading: Jeremiah 39:16-17
Go and speak to Ebedmelech saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring my words upon this city for evil, and not for good; and they shall be accomplished in that day before thee. But I will deliver thee in that day, saith the LORD: and thou shalt not be given into the hand of the men of whom thou art afraid.
Reflections: They hated Jeremiah for his prophecies even though it was clear he had spoken by the Lord. Eventually, they conspired to kill him and even got the consent of the King to do so. Sadly they cast him into a muddy dungeon where the plan was for him to sink slowly till he dies. Ebedmelech however rushed to his rescue. He was a lone voice who wouldn’t condone what was not right before God. He got the king to rescind his decision and to give his approval for the release of Jeremiah. His righteous gesture got the attention of God. In a prophecy, God assured him that he will be spared of the judgment that was coming upon the whole land of Israel. He was exempted from going into Babylonian captivity. You may be a lone voice championing what is right. Do not quit. Like Ebedmelech, you will be rewarded!
Prayer: Dear Lord, give me the strength to keep championing what is right even when I appear to be alone.
Confession: I stand for God and not for man. I am rewarded by God!
