Scripture Reading: Daniel 6:13-14
Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day. Then the king, when he heard these words, was sore displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him.
Reflection: Daniel was envied by his colleagues because he was the preferred choice of King Darius for the topmost position in the kingdom. In order to get rid of Daniel, his colleagues hatched a diabolical plan. They got Darius to sign a decree that for the next 30 days, no one was permitted to make a petition to anybody except to the King. Those who violated were going to be cast into the lion’s den. Darius bought into this idea because I qqqqt sought to highlight his authority as the highest person in the kingdom. Little did he know that he was only being used to get rid of his own friend and favorite advisor, Daniel. It was too late when he got to know. Daniel was caught praying to his God and was dragged into his presence. He did all he could to save Daniel but it was indeed too late. When people approach you with opinions and suggestions, take your time before you assent. Ask the relevant questions. Pray and ponder over the issues. They may be doing so just to use you against those they dislike. Remember the case of Darius all the time. Don’t allow yourself to be used against others! Let the Holy Spirit guide you!
Confession: I refuse to be used by people against others. I will not fall into such traps. The Holy Spirit will guide me!
