Scripture Reading: Ezekiel 14:3
Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumbling block of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them?
The Elders of Israel visited the Prophet Ezekiel to have fellowship with God. They knew God was going to declare his counsel to them. They however had a shock. God just refused to talk to them. He considered them as strangers and explained why- idols were present in their hearts. God demanded that they put away these idols so that He could have fellowship with them. The presence of idols in your heart alienates you from God and renders you a stranger before Him. An idol of the heart is any object of veneration which has taken the place of God in your life. Today, it could be anything including your work, tablet, phone, spouse, children etc etc. Possessing these things are not sin in themselves at all. The problem is when you allow them to take the place of God in your life. Just keep yourself away from idols of the heart (1John 5:21).
Prayer: Oh Lord help me keep my heart away from idols. May I never loose my fellowship with you.
Confession: I will not keep idols in my heart. God will always have the first place in my life.
