Scripture Reading: Ezra 7:19
For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments.
Reflections: God delivered His promise to free Israel from captivity in Babylon. To rebuild Jerusalem and the temple, the people of Israel started returning to their country in batches. The temple was quickly reconstructed. Israel needed to find someone who could instruct them in God’s ways at that point. Ezra, a skilled scribe of the law of Moses, was chosen. Ezra departed for Israel from Babylon after receiving permission from the king. When he arrived, he immediately showed that he was the right candidate. He was incredibly successful in changing the minds of his followers to reflect God’s word. We note his success was based on how he had ‘prepared his heart for the task. This meant that he had placed himself in a way that would allow for behaviours that would produce the desired outcomes. You can’t succeed at any task until you put yourself in a position where the proper steps can be taken.
Dear Lord, help me prepare my heart for sucess.
Confession: I carefully position myself for good results.
