Scripture Reading: Gen 27:6-8
And Rebekah spake unto Jacob her son, saying, Behold, I heard thy father speak unto Esau thy brother, saying, Bring me venison, and make me savoury meat, that I may eat, and bless thee before the LORD before my death. Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to that which I command thee.
Reflection: How could she ever forget God’s voice which informed her that ‘the elder shall serve the younger’. The mysterious scene where Jacob her second son held on strongly to the heels of Esau, the first son, as they both came out of her womb as twins was still fresh in her memory. It all made great meaning to her. She had a task to ensure that the blessings of rulership/leadership will pass on to Jacob even though he was the second son. With such a conviction she moved swiftly to align Jacob to his destiny when the time came. Her counsel to Jacob looked somewhat bizarre by human standards, but it was honored by God. Interestingly she had actually lived the meaning of her name. The name Rebekah comes from the ‘hebrew unused verb רבק (rbq), meaning to “tie firmly’. For sure, she was the one to get Jacob tied firmly or aligned to his destiny and she did just that. Like Jacob, you will definitely need a ‘Rebekah’, the one to get you tied firmly or aligned to your destiny. Such a person must stay on course and be ready to deliver!
Prayer: Oh Lord, let my destiny aligner/connectors stay on course and deliver their mandate.
Confession: No destiny aligner/connector of my life can abandon me.
