Scripture Reading: Matthew 19: 1 & 16
And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
Reflections: Shortly after Jesus imparted authority and power to his disciples to make them effective in their missionary operations, He followed up with instructions, one of which requested them to be as wise as serpents. The snake is noted for its sensory abilities, which allow it to discern danger and escape or identify and harness an opportunity. From the interaction between Jesus and his disciples in this order, we can tell that the Godly is given a position of power to prevail and a set of instructions to abide by. Failure to comply with these instructions, despite our power, ushers us into casualties and difficulties that God did not intend us to face. No matter what authority you have, learn to obey instructions.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to stay obedient to divine rules that govern my life.
Confession: I stay obedient to divine rules that govern my life.
