Scripture Reading: 2 Tim 4:5
But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.
Reflection: Timothy is admonished by Paul to do the work of an evangelist. The Greek word for evangelist means the one who announces good news. The evangelist is a person called into one of the five-fold ministry with a special gift to lead sinners to repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ (Ephesians 4:11). To do the work of an evangelist sounds different from being an evangelist. It implies that even though you may not be called into the ministerial office of the evangelist you are certainly mandated with grace to announce the good news of salvation to people. Simply put, as part of your lifestyle, you must be telling people about the love of Christ and the need for them to accept him as their Lord and personal saviour. Soul winning no doubt is heaven’s priority. No wonder the entire angelic host in heaven rejoices when one soul is won for Christ (Luke 15:7). You must connect to heaven’s priority.
Prayer: Lord help me do the work of an evangelist.
Confession: I will not neglect doing the work of an evangelist. I will speak about the love of Christ to others.
