Scripture Reading: 2 Tim 3:5
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
Reflection: As the Apostle Paul points the church to the perilous times ahead, he speaks about the emergence of a calibre of christians who must be marked and avoided. He describes them as ‘ having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof’. These refers to those who ‘will go on pretending to be devoted to God and yet refuse to let that “devotion” change the way they live. They may speak in tongues, take up positions at church, support church work enthusiastically, dance at church etc etc but will fail to demonstrate the standards of changed lives in response to holiness. They will only honor God with their lips and not with their heart ( Matthew 15:18, Isaiah 29:13). Take note of such ones. They are with us already. Like Paul said, just learn to stay away from them. If you don’t, they can get you to follow the rudiments and standards of the world. They have a way of making you feel that there is nothing wrong in following that path and will soon get you to also begin to deny the power of godliness.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to keep responding to the power of godliness and to avoid those who will seek to stop me in this pursuit.
Confession: I will keep responding to the power of godliness. I will keep avoiding those who will seek to stop me from pursuing a life that responds to the power of godliness.
