Tuesday, 17th October 2017: Don’t keep friends who don’t tell you the truth!

Scripture Reading: 2Samuel 13:2-3
And Amnon was so vexed, that he fell sick for his sister Tamar; for she was a virgin; and Amnon thought it hard for him to do any thing to her.. But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David’s brother: and Jonadab was a very subtil man.
Reflections: Amnon was caught up in a fierce battle in his thoughts. At one point in time he wanted to have sexual intercourse with Tamar his sister so badly and yet at another time he will think of how abominable his action will be. Such was the battle raging on in his mind. This got him sick and he started growing lean. Clearly, Amnon desperately needed help to come out of this but the contrary happened when his friend Jonadab appeared on the scene. Jonadab made Amnon feel he was right in his thoughts and ways even though he knew it was not right. With his assistance, Amnon succeeded in luring Tamar to his room where he raped her. Jonadab represents the type of friends who will not tell you the truth. They will rather ill advice and help you do the wrong thing in life. Their presence in your life will lead you to commit unpardonable mistakes which sometimes may even lead to your untimely death. Amnon actually died untimely after raping Tamar. He was murdered in revenge by Absalom, Tamar’s brother. Don’t keep friends who don’t tell you the truth.
Prayer:  Lord help me rid my life of any ‘Jonadab’ in my life.

Confession: I refuse to keep a friend who will help me to do evil. I resist friends who don’t tell me the truth about my actions.
