Scripture Reading: Genesis 3:4-5 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
Reflections: They were placed higher than all of God’s creation and given the mandate to rule in life. Besides, they both knew of the specific instructions from God that governed their use of the garden. They were forbidden to eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge and evil. The inevitable however happened. Eve ate of the fruit and persuaded Adam to eat as well. The end result was that they were driven away from the glorious living to that of a cursed life. Their failure to price God’s word above that of the serpent ushered them into this fate. As Eve listened to the serpent’s submission that God did not really mean that they will die if they ate of the fruit, she placed a higher premium on those words than that of God. It was at that point that she fell to the subtlety of the serpent and passed on the same error to Adam. It is evidently clear that when you tend to value what people tell you more than what God has said, trouble brews! Learn to price God’s word higher than any other word!
Prayer: Oh Lord, help me to value what you say more than what people will tell me.
Confession: No word from anyone can be above the word of God in my life. The word of God remains the ultimate and final rule of my life.
