Scripture Reading: Obadiah 1:18
And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it.
Reflection: The hostilities meted out by the house of Esau to that of Jacob was about to be judged by God. The house of Jacob was ready to encounter liberation. The prophet Obadiah uses figurative language to describe the process for the liberation. God was going to position the house of Jacob as fire and that of Esau as stubble. Stubble as we know has never ever be known to withstand the presence of fire. Anytime it comes into contact with fire, it is utterly consumed in no time at all. Victory for the house of Jacob was therefore imminent. You may seem so helpless before your enemies. They may seem to be so superior in strength and be winning the battle against you but God can turn things around suddenly! Like the house of Jacob, he will make you as FIRE and render them as STUBBLE (like the house of Esau). The end result will be like how Samson freed himself when he was tied up with fresh ropes for destruction -‘When he came to Lehi, the Philistines came shouting to meet him. Then the Spirit of the LORD rushed upon him, and the ropes that were on his arms became as flax that has caught fire, and his bonds melted off his hands’-Judges 15:14. Ask God to make you like fire and your enemies as stubble! You will surely walk in liberty!
Prayer: Oh Lord, make me as fire and let my enemies and all forms of limitations in my life become as stubble before me!
Confession: I see myself as fire. I see all limitations in my life as stubble. I consume but I cannot be consumed. Glory to God who makes me like fire and my enemies as stubble.
