Tuesday, 14th November 2023: Faith demands a good conscience!

Scripture Reading: 1Tim 1:19
Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:

Reflections: Conscience and faith are intertwined and essential to spiritual development and warfare. The conscience is the mind’s voice. It either finds our conduct acceptable or unacceptable. Collin Smith adequately clarified the point by stating, “conscience gives you the ability to evaluate your thoughts and desires, to distinguish between what is right and wrong, and to differentiate between what is good and what is best.” We can be confident that our faith is guiding us towards the correct outcomes when our conscience, guided by the Holy Spirit, does not condemn our deeds and responses (John 16:8). But as Paul said, our faith and our life in the Christian walk would be sunk like a ship if our conscience condemns us. Faith therefore operates with a good conscience!

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me hold on to faith with a good conscience.

Confession: I hold on to faith with a good conscience.
