Scripture Reading: 1 Thessalonians 5:19
Quench not the Spirit.
Reflection: We know the Spirit of God indwells us as christians but we are reminded not to quench Him. The word ‘quench’ is translated from the Greek word ‘ sbennumi’ which means to extinguish. This brings our minds to the fire extinguisher, a device used to put out flames of fire. When the word is applied to the Holy Spirit as indicated by Paul, it points to extinguishing or putting out the manifes…tation of the power and directives of the Holy Spirit in our lives. The Holy Spirit seeks to express Himself in our actions and attitudes and to manifest his power in conditions and over situations. Our cooperation in this regard is required and we must yield fully. When we refuse to cooperate, we act as fire extinguishers and end up quenching his flames ( manifestations). In essence, you become an extinguisher when you hinder the work of the Holy Spirit. Don’t hinder his ministry that brings conviction. Don’t hinder or neglect the use of his gifts. Don’t hinder or ignore his teaching ministry. Let Him have his own way in your life and in the church.
Prayer: Oh Holy Spirit, have your own way in my life!
Confession: I will not hinder the ministry of the Holy Spirit in my life. I will not quench his flames.
