Scripture Reading: Jer 32:9-10 And I bought the field of Hanameel my uncle’s son, that was in Anathoth, and weighed him the money, even seventeen shekels of silver. And I subscribed the evidence, and sealed it, and took witnesses, and weighed him the money in the balances.
Reflections: Under divine instructions, Jeremiah bought a plot of land in Anathoth from his cousin, Hanamel for seventeen shekels of silver. He ensured that a formal procedure of purchase was engaged even though he was dealing with his own relative. He even brought in a third party to witness the deal. In addition, he ensured Hanamel prepared the deed of the purchase which they both signed and sealed in the presence of the witness. We can see that despite Jeremiah’s prophetic authority and family relationship with Hanamel, he never took things for granted. He applied wisdom to guarantee that he would not be cheated in the future No matter the unction you carry and the nature of the trusted relationship you have with people, learn to treat business deals as purely as such and get the necessary legal documentation processed. Like Jeremiah, learn to protect your interest in life with applied wisdom!
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to go beyond trusted relationships to apply myself to the needed wisdom In my dealings with people.
Confession: I don’t take things for granted. I apply wisdom to protect every interest of my life.
