Scripture Reading: Luke 17:32
Remember Lot’s wife
Reflection: Lot lived in Sodom with his family. Divine judgment was about to visit the city. They were therefore asked to leave immediately by the angels of God. They were told not to look back as they hurriedly checked out of town. Lot ran with his daughters close behind. But his wife, lagging from behind them all, disregarded the instructions given and looked back. Instantly she became a “pillar of salt” (Genesis 19:26). The Hebrew for “looked back” goes beyond just looking over one’s shoulder. It means “to regard, to consider, to pay attention to”. This implies that perhaps Lot’s wife had regard for the acquired properties she was leaving behind in Sodom and this cost her dearly. You have to be careful about what you regard or pay attention to in this life. It can cause you to disregard God’s directives for your life and this can cost you dearly. Do not ever forget about Lot’s wife. Don’t look back! Happy New year!
Prayer: Dear Lord, please help to regard only what you approve.
Confession: I regard only what God approves. I am kept safe.
