Scripture Reading: Rom 8:13
For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live
Reflections: To be spiritually dead refers to a life separated from God. Paul points us to one of the factors that allow this to occur. He describes it as ‘living after the flesh’. This ‘flesh’ is not referring to something external but rather internal. It is the tendency to sin. This indicates that you are struggling against an adversary within known as the flesh. Its only trait is an insatiable appetite for everything that goes against God’s will. The moment you give in to its desire, it will lead you astray and cause you to sin. Thus, even though you are physically alive, you can be spiritually dead if your life subscribes to the voice of the flesh. Refuse to live after the flesh. It is an enemy and not a friend!
Prayer: Help me, Lord, to resist the voice of the flesh.
Confession: I refuse to live after the flesh.
