Scripture Reading: Genesis 24:26-27
And the man bowed down his head and worshipped the LORD. And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham, who hath not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth: I being in the way, the LORD led me to the house of my master’s brethren
Reflections: He knew getting a wife for his master’s son was not that easy. Eliezer set off, however, knowing that God was going to help him out. At least his master Abraham had assured him of this divine support. After days of travelling, he arrived at a well and miraculously met Rebecca, whom God confirmed was going to be the wife of Isaac. Astounded by this discovery and conscious of the divine guidance he had enjoyed, Eliezer quickly bowed his head and began to worship God. Words of gratitude and appreciation poured from his heart towards God. It signalled a part of his life worth emulating: He was a man with a grateful heart. He never forgets to thank God and people for any help he gets from them. To be grateful is to have ‘the quality of being thankful and ready to show appreciation for and return kindness. Gratitude is indeed a ‘virtue of high excellence that shows anyone that you have a proper sense of duty’. As long as you remain grateful, you are sure to encounter favours in life!
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me maintain a grateful heart towards you and all my benefactors.
Confession: I maintain a grateful heart towards God and all my benefactors.
