Scropture Reading: Luke 14:12-14
Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompense be made thee. But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.
Reflections: People occasionally host special dinners for their friends and coworkers. In His discourse with His listeners, Jesus encourages them to organize such meetings rather for the destitute and needy. He argues that the benefits gained from such an action are eternal. This indicates that, among other things, one method to insure eternal benefits is to contribute to the welfare of people who are incapable of repaying your goodwill. Assist people who cannot repay your generosity! Let God lead you!
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me give to those who cannot give back.
Confession: I give to those who cannot give back.
