Scripture Reading: Esther 3:5 And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence, then was Haman full of wrath.
Reflections: Mordecai’s refusal to bow before him as a symbol of respect and reverence infuriated Haman. This level of acute rage prompted Haman to contemplate retribution at length. His final decision was not only to have Mordecai executed by hanging, but also to exterminate all Jews, Mordecai’s fellow citizens. Haman’s planned action was entirely inhumane and a flagrant violation of God’s will. It originated from his emotional reaction. This behavior or attitude indicates the importance of regulating our emotional response towards others, as it can easily lead us away from God’s will and become a readily available instrument for the adversary. Paul admonished correctly that we must not permit our anger to lead us into sin, nor should we allow the sun to set while still holding on to it (Eph 4:26). Contrary to Haman, you must always conform to God’s will by controlling any negative emotive responses to those who wrong you.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to control my emotional responses so I can please you.
Confession: I keep my emotional responses under control so I can please God.
