Scripture Reading: 2Sam 5:20 And David came to Baalperazim, and David smote them there, and said, The LORD hath broken forth upon mine enemies before me, as the breach of waters. Therefore, he called the name of that place Baalperazim.
Reflections: The Philistines launched an attack on David as soon as he was proclaimed King of Israel. He was sure of victory since he believed God was on his side. During the conflict, David overcame the Philistine army, who fled for their lives, leaving images of their gods, which David picked up and destroyed. As he reflected on how effortlessly he had won the conflict, he concluded that the Lord had gone before him like a breaking flood to take over the struggle. As a result, he named the battleground ‘Baalperazim,’ which means “the one who goes ahead to allow us to break through. In any battle you face, God will go ahead of you and enable you to break through, just like he did for David.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank you that you will enable me to break through each time I come under attack.
Confession: God enables me to break through each time I come under attack.
