Thursday, 6th October 2022: Ignore the presence of those who despise you!

Scripture Reading:1Sam 10: 26-27
And Saul also went home to Gibeah; there went with him a band of men, whose hearts God had touched. But the children of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him and brought him no presents. But he held his peace.

Reflections: There were shouts of ‘God save the King’ among the people as Samuel publicly announced that God had chosen Saul to be their king. Saul was thus set on a new path. Much as he saw many supporting his ascension to the throne, he also noticed that a section of the people refused to acknowledge him as King. They despised him and refused to bring him presents. Rather than allowing this to break him down emotionally, he surmounted it by ‘keeping his peace’. To keep your peace is to remain silent over an issue. Essentially it means to ignore its existence. In life, people may want you to feel that you are not needed. When you choose to worry over their behaviours, you may break down emotionally and lose focus in working towards accomplishing your goal in life. The best way out is to behave like Saul- ignore them and carry on!

Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank you for the willpower to ignore those who despise me.

Confession: The presence of despisers cannot stop me from forging ahead in life.
