Thursday, 6th July 2017: If you don’t stay alert, you will not stay alive!

Scripture Reading:1Pe 5:8
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking whom he may devour.

Reflections: The Apostle Peter makes us aware that the devil lurks around with the aim of looking for people to devour. Clearly those he will ever get will be those who are not alert. To forestall this situation Peter admonishes the church to be “sober and vigilant”. While the word “sober” implies having not been drunk with alcohol, ‘vigilant” speaks of alertness. In essence Peter was asking the church to do away with whatever can compromise their alertness in life. The implication is that if you don’t learn to stay alert in life , you will definitely not stay alive. You will be taken unawares by events. Be on the alert and stay alive by maintaining a word/prayer based life and a strong fellowship with the Holy Spirit. Resist whatever will get you to compromise your alertness in life.

Prayer: Dear Lord, grant me grace to stay alert in this life.

Confession: By grace, I am kept alert of the enemy and his devices. I shall never be his captive.
